B6 Paper Size

B6 paper size is a medium format in B range. It was imagined by Walter Portsmann in 1922, who suggested it to the German Institute for standards.

Walter Portsmann resumed the writings of Lichtenberg in 1786, that boasted benefits of proportional square root of 2 ratio between length and width. DIN 476 was then taken over in 1975 under the name ISO 216, for an international purpose.

B6 format is suitable for human writing. This format is reserved for professional printing, like all B formats. It can be used to create booklets or flyers.

Its area is 0.022 m² (0.03 square yards, 0.24 square foot, or 24.1 square inches). Therefore 32 B6 sheets are necessary to form a B0 sheet. The dimensions of a B6 sheet are: 176 x 125 mm or 6.93 x 4.92 inches.

The length / width proportion is always maintained between two B format sheets, because the √2 ratio always applies. This implies that the length is equal to the width x √2 (1.4142). The content of the sheets do not change when you change their format (by photocopying).

It is possible to calculate the weight of a B6 sheet comparing its total surface to paper weight, always expressed in g/m². This allows the calculation: paper weight x area = weight of one sheet.
