This CD is mostly a collection of blues instrumentals. The exception is Walks with Angels, see note below.

1) Stormy Weather - This is the first of two tributes to the late, great T-Bone Walker, one of my favorite players. It is a slow blues instrumental based on the changes from his tune Stormy Monday.

2) Swing Thing - This is an up-tempo blues with a swing feel. This kind of groove is always fun to play. It features my daughter, Erin Bell, on Bass guitar. This tune was the #1 blues tune of SoundClick.com for a couple of months and has received some airplay.

3) Blues for Albert - A dedication to the great Albert King. The main melody line is based on the vocal line from The Years go passing by.

4) Rockin' Blues - I am quite proud of this one! Someone at PSU contacted me after hearing it and asked if I would donate it to use as background music for a fashion show they were putting on to raise money for kids with cancer. The result was pressed to DVD and was sent out to all the major sponsors, and was also included in their DVD yearbook. I've seen the result and it turned out great! My friend Steve Andrest helped out on keyboards, and Danny Berk played drums on this. I play all the guitars and the bass.

5) T-Boned - This is another tribute to T-Bone Walker, who I think doesn't get the attention he deserves. In my opinion he is the father of modern, electric blues. B.B. King learned much of his style from listening to T-Bone. Anyway, I don't try to sound like him but I do like the music he wrote. This is an instrumental in the spirit of his tune T-Bone Shuffle.

6) Blues Magic- I was going for something different on this and had a lot of fun with it. It starts out as a minor key thing, and then goes into a major key with a jazzy feel. This is one of my favorites.

7) Walks with Angels- I added this one to the CD at the last minute. It is not blues in the classic sense, but it is certainly bluesy. I had been playing around with the basic structure of this for a while and wasn't really getting anywhere with it when I heard some bad news from a friend of mine regarding his daughter who died in a car crash. Being a parent myself it really hit me hard - I don't know how I would handle it if something happened to one of my children. The rest of the song just flowed out after that over a few days, and I think it's the best thing I've ever done so far. This song is dedicated to her memory.

Note: This is the original instrumental version, a version with vocals is on my Evening in Brazil CD.

8) Feeling Blue- I had originally done this as part of a project I was involved in called Blues Foundry. I was not able to remix this because I lost the original tracks when I had a hard drive failure, but I was able to restore it to it's original length of 11 minutes, I had cut it down to 5 minutes for the project. It was a result of one of those times when I just felt like playing and pressed record. 11 minutes is a little self-indulgent, but I know that some people really like it.

One of the first guitarists I got into way back when was Carlos Santana, and even though I'm mostly a blues player I have always loved latin ryhthms.

The tunes on this CD were a labour of love, and I spent a lot of time on each one so that they each have a strong melodic element in addition to a solo section.

All of the tunes are original and composed by myself with the exception of a new version of Walks with Angels that has a lyric added by Richard Montefiore.

Special thanks go out to Geraldo D'arbilly who added percussion to most of the tracks on the CD, my daughter Erin Bell for playing Bass on Esperanza, Steve Andrest for keyboards on La Ranura, and Richard Montefiore for the vocals on Walks with Angels.

This CD started out being a blues CD because I got many comments from the people that bought Feeling Blue saying that they wanted to hear more of my blues playing.

I love doing blues instrumentals, but I also love instrumentals that have more structure than your typical blues, so this CD has examples of both.

Seven tracks are pure blues, the rest are a mixture of funk, latin, rock, and new age type material.

All tracks are original with the exception of Bad Weather which was composed by Mark Stefani and is used with his permission, and Funky Blue which was written with Greg Goss.

Greg Goss plays bass on Funky Blue, and Geraldo D'arbilly plays percussion on Dreams, Lost in Love, Cha-cha in Blue, Funky Blue, Bad Weather, and Funked Up.
