Community SpotlightDV Lottery of K1 Visa - Can I file for both?
Petrisaint Mpaka posted a topic in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures,
I applied for the DV lottery 2025 and hope to be selected this year. My fiancé and I discovered that there is a fiancé visa for the USA. Do you think if we apply for the K1 visa but are selected for the DV lottery that we can stop the fiancé visa process? What are the timelines and options here :)?-

Confused about steps after marriage
SP1988 posted a topic in Adjustment of Status (Green Card) from K1 and K3 Family Based Visas,
My fiancee arrived last month on K1 fiance visa and we got married yesterday. It seems from what I have seen online that I made a mistake by not getting SSN prior to marriage? I am going to the SSN office on Monday to gather more information... also worried about employment authorization and travel authorization(s). Thanks for any insights!-

Tourist visa cancelled by CBP agent. Can we still get a CR1 or K1 Visa?
yotajeeper posted a topic in What Visa Do I Need - Family Based Immigration,
Upon my gf's most recent arrival, her tourist visa was cancelled at the airport due to her frequent visits last year and suspicion of working here. She was denied entry and sent back same day. Is a CR1 or K1 visa process an option still? I would appreciate any advice or tips you can provide!-

1 RepliesI just applied for my first US passport and expedited it as we are travelling in June, and while we re staying in the US, it would be bad if it arrived while we were away. I m also due to renew my Canadian passport. I see that it takes about 20 days which seems like enough time. However; I m not sure how long delivery takes to the US. Anyone have a recent experience getting a renewed passport?

2 RepliesHello all, we noticed there is a box where the beneficiary can check to be their own financial sponsor. I am currently back to work after having been unemployed for about 8 months this year. I have worked in the same career field for 8 years and this break which occurred due to medical reasons, was the first gap in employment I had in such time. Nearly all
but a few thousand dollars of my savings was eaten up during this time. My tax return meets the minimum guidelines but just barely since it was only 4 months worth of salary. On the other hand, my beneficiary has assets worth roughly 150k usd, as well as ~90k usd in his savings. We are thinking having him apply as being responsible party as the beneficiary for the k-1 visa portion might be a better option in our case. Does anyone know is this possible and if there are requirements he would need to meet in order to do this? Thank you!

4 RepliesHello all,
My k1 petition was approved and when i checked the visa status it shows that it's ready. This was done in August 24/ 2023. Ans we are at the end of March 2024 .
Since then we have not yet heard anything from the US embassy in morroco.
I am not sure if it's anormal waiting time or if anything went wrong. We sent multiple emails to the concerned emabssy but we received ONE. And it's said they will contact us when the file is on top of the queue .
The concerning thing is when i went on their website it said : If it has been three to four months after DHS has approved your petition and your fianc e has still not received an instruction packet, you should contact the Consulate or the original DHS office where the petition was approved. You can contact the Immigrant Visa Unit at ivcasablanca@state.gov.
IS anyone going through the same process ? Can anyone tell if we need to anything beside contacting the embassy who answers when they feel like it.
Thank you All.
2 K1 denials to IR1 interview soon, questions 11:57 am today

1 RepliesAs some are aware from past posts over the years, my now wife and I have had 2 K1s denied at embassy level and are now a short time away from her IR1 interview.
One K1 was focusing on her family here with a generic 221g and the second was me being told by email from the embassy she did not show adequate intent to marry in the U.S.
Questions are basically for brevity and peace of mind, since I'm leaving in a week to go over and be there during the interview period, I know I can't go inside, but she'll have my passport.
What if any, of the previous K1 denial factors can be used as a basis of judgment on the IR1? IR1 as we have passed two years of marriage when she will enter the U.S.
They focused on her sister/aunt her in the first denial, since we are doing a spousal immediate relative Visa, this should no longer have any bearing correct? And the second was not believing intent to marry, which we overcame through a marriage in her country.
I guess I'm just asking since we've been fighting this process since 2018 as my mind always feels like we never have enough to show them our legitimacy.
401k beneficiary
Life insurance beneficiary
Joint credit card she uses
Letters from employer about adding to health insurance on her arrival
Less impact but have none the less
Notarized letters from my family stating awareness of our marriage/relationship
Proof of visits and consistent daily video communication
I'm not sure honestly what else can be done to show we are legitimate of the worst happens. But I have come to terms of knowing I will give up U.S citizenship if I have to, to be with her and start our family.

3 RepliesI have a question if anyone can help me out? Does the federal poverty guidelines pertain to the current year s tax return or all three years of income that they ask about. My current 2023 tax return, and the previous year s 2022 tax return are good. I made well over the federal guidelines the past 2 years. However the year of 2021 I made under because of Covid. It was actually because of Covid and losing my job that year that I decided to take time off and travel. I went to Brazil and that s when I met my fianc . Not long after that I came back to the USA and got another job that pays me well above the federal guidelines. Do I need a joint sponsor if that one year about 3 years ago was under the guideline or is it based on the current year s tax return when meeting the guideline?
