Download Frescobaldi

Mac OS X

For Mac OS X DMG disk images are provided, containing an application bundle that you can drag and drop in your Applications folder. 64 bit and 32 bit versions are provided (the "Frescobaldi-2.x.x-x86_64.dmg" and "Frescobaldi-2.x.x-i386.dmg" files, respectively). As an alternative you can install via Homebrew or MacPorts (français, italiano).

With either installation method, you might want to enable MIDI playback from within Frescobaldi (français, italiano).

Install a copy of LilyPond as well.

Windows

For MS Windows a full installer is provided, containing all components needed by Frescobaldi (the "Frescobaldi.Setup.x.y.z.exe" file). It might be necessary to install the Visual C++ 2015 x86 runtime module from Microsoft.

It is recommended to uninstall an onder version first before installing a new version of Frescobaldi.

And of course, install a copy of LilyPond!

Linux

Most Linux-distros have Frescobaldi in their package manager. On most Debian-based distributions the command sudo apt-get install frescobaldi if sufficient to install Frescobaldi and its dependencies.

In the case Frescobaldi isn't in the package manager, you can install Frescobaldi from source, see below.

Installing from source

You can download Frescobaldi from the GitHub project releases page.

An installable Python module is provided (the "frescobaldi-x.y.z.tar.gz" file). This can be used on all operating systems. Unpack and then read the INSTALL file about installation options.

Frescobaldi 2 needs the Python interpreter version 2.7 or higher (3.2+ is also supported), the PyQt4 library and the python-ly package. Optional but strongly recommended are Python-Poppler-Qt4 for viewing PDF documents and Python-PortMidi for MIDI playback.

Installation order:

Frescobaldi 3 needs Python version 3.4+, PyQt5 and Python-Poppler-Qt5. And of course python-ly and Python-PortMidi, installed for the same Python version.

Installation order:

For Linux, all dependencies can be installed via the package manager or manually.

On the Links page, you can find links to packaged releases of Frescobaldi for specific operating system versions.

Frescobaldi 1:

You can download the sourcecode for Frescobaldi 1.x (the old stable version for KDE4) from its GoogleCode project pages. Frescobaldi 1 only works on platforms that have KDE4 available. Note that you need not to run the KDE desktop environment: you can run any desktop environment to use Frescobaldi, but you just need to install the base libraries of KDE.
