Romantically Apocalyptic Webcomic

Romantically Apocalyptic Webcomic

by Vitaly S Alexius

Charles Snippy finds himself lost and alone at the end of the world. He makes a wish for a friend and meets Zee Captain, an eccentric lunatic luminary, who drags him on an adventure through the eldritch, deadly, questionable and limitless post-apocalyptic world of tomorrow, a place where Goodness makes the rules and everything has purpose and passion.

~A post-apocalyptic, dark comedy webcomic that I've been working on since 2005 by myself at first and then with friends from all around the world.

Best Webcomic I have Ever Read

Reviewed at: 153. Rude awakening

This is one of the most interesting stories I have ever read. It starts out relatively tame, but spirals out into a very complex story that interconnects with all of the author's other works.

I first read RA on its old site a couple months ago, and was taken aback by the beautiful art and photography, as well as the style of humor and story that seems to make sense in-world, but doesn’t confine itself to what we think is normal. It brought something new to the table in its seemingly random plotline and the art was something I've never seen before with its combination of photography and digital painting. It was completely different from anything else in the best sort of way.

Then, about a week ago, I was reminded of RA and checked the site and the discord to find that there was a rewrite! This reignited my interest in RA and I was so surprised at all the great new art and writing. I love that the insanity continues in this modern update. The new writing sheds light on some of the more confusing aspects of the story and the new AI art is beautiful and fits with the story very nicely. The fact that I could see all of Vitaly’s stories in one place motivated me to read them all. I was shocked at how all these fictions connect into this really interesting universe.

The characters in each have their own personalities that work so well together, and it's really fun to see the interactions between Snippy and the rest of the cast. I love watching the story unfold and bearing witness to the eldritch horrors of this world, served with a side of unique and funny humor. Even though it can get pretty weird and confusing at times, I never wanted to stop reading, it actually seemed to make me want to read more to uncover the secrets of this world.

Overall, a very funny and addicting story. Reading this comic has been one of the best choices I have ever made, and opened my eyes to seeing what was possible in art and writing. I'm surprised this isn’t more popular. One of my favorite stories.

Romantically Apocalyptic is outstanding. I don't read much and my English isn't very good, but despite all of that this book blew me away. It can be described with 3 A's - Amazing story, Awesome art and Adorable characters.

The best things are probably plot twists. They just happen randomly and explain everything that didn't make sense. It is even better when you read other books from this author and you don't understand something but then at some point they start connecting to each other and you're like: "Aah. Now I understand everything".

I'd write about minuses of RA but there are simply none. 100 Grumpy Snippies/100 Zee Captains.

I came across this webcomic a long time ago, I'm a completely different person now, but one thing I can say for sure is that no matter what age this comic will always be relevant.

This is the most unique comic book I've ever seen. The artwork, the characters, the plot, everything takes me back to my crazy childhood, when I was always making stuff up.

The whole idea of a crazy and weird post-apocalypse reminds me of the Adventure Time series, weird as that may be. And Snippy is the last man, Finn the human of this Adventure Time, as you like. Who the other characters are - try to guess for yourself. It's just amazing!

So, as far as the drawings go? It's very realistic and beautiful, and the characters are models from real life, which is already very unusual. Overall I will say this, you are not ready for the style of this comic in a good way.

By the way, I was chatting on messenger with the author of this comic, a very interesting person.

I won't beat around the bush for long, if you appreciate digital art, you'll love this comic. Start exploring the world of Capitania!

Awesome epic. So many cool ideas! So many plot twists and creative characters and designs! Truly unique and one of a kind! It's been going on for a very long time and I used to read it back in high school. The art style and sound design is superb! Definitely give it a read, you won't be disappointed.

What can be said about Romantically Apocalyptic? It's really the most unique story you'll ever read. There truly is nothing else like it.

The Apocalyptic setting blends with the sci-fi dystopian world to create a unique outlook on a big what if in our own world. It shows our world could become. Though I must concede, the story does get a little bizarre and hard to follow later in, the characters really pull it through.

Snippy acts very well as a proxy character, giving us a very clueless outlook on the world that we can reflect ourselves on and learn through him. Pilot is possibly the most fun and wild concept I've ever seen for a character and I absolutely love him, he offers a lot of much needed relief during the later confusing storylines and he's always a welcome appearance. Captain herself is just another level as a character, so much depth to her character build is weaved in and told expertly. She first appears to be a bumbling fool, whose brain was destroyed by radiation, but then you find she starts being right a lot, and maybe Captain knows what she is talking about. It's just so fun to explore her character.

I cannot recommend this read enough. If you hate pineapple, but love whacky adventures, gorgeous post apocalyptic settings, giant monsters, space, time, doors and the treat of unraveling a mystery from many borderline insane different mysteries(like some sort of massive mystery yarn ball) then this is the book for you! Zee captain is probably my favorite character just for zeer pure unadulterated wonderfulness(snippy is a close second for his pure unadulterated sass) If you're still unsure, there are also many gorgeous pictures and funny mini comics for people to endulge in so strap your reading boots on and go for a dip.
I've read this comic since I was a wee lad. Back in the day when they started their old character contest I remember creating a little childish gremlin to wander the wasteland. With my tiny inexperienced hands I got to work making many tiny comics that were all absolutely terrible, illustrating her adventures running into the characters-as children do. This both spawned my love for making mini comics at the time as well as what is now my mascot who I draw absolutely everywhere I go on everything I really shouldn't draw on.
Romantically Apocalyptic will always hold a special spot in my heart as the first webcomic I ever read, and will continue to be on my reread list every year for as long as i am able to.

My thanks to Vit for keeping this comic going. The past two years had me worried for the comic and it's longevity. Covid hit everyone hard and seeing RA rise from the ashes to rub the sleep from its eyes with new content and reading has brought hope back to me.

An artifact refurbished for the modern day

Reviewed at: 104. In which Charles enjoys the sky

Romantically Apocalyptic is a very very old webcomic that's been around for almost as long as I've been alive, and it's nothing but a treat to re-read with enhanced art. The art style and the mix of real-life photos to mix these beautiful pieces of artwork that have impressed me every single time and will be one of my favorite comics to visit even for just the artwork. The story is a bit complicated but I like it that way, it's extremely mysterious and every new character spices it up just a bit more. The grammar has very to no grammatical errors providing an easy read. The characters I adore, with every personality shining in their own ways that change a situation depending on who's around. I even used this webcomic for my English class and passed because of how well it fits into all the categories! I think my favorite characters have gotta be Engie and Snippy as my top two. I love Engie's design and his whole mad scientist-ish personality is awesome, and you don't see characters like him who pretty much got everyone around him killed while trying to do nothing but the good very often. I like Snippy because his whole scarastic sour attitude is always a funny comic relief in a mix with zee captain.

Beautiful art & storytelling, as always

Reviewed at: 74. Eyes of the city [ III ]

Romantically Apocalyptic was one of the first webcomics I was introduced to, and now that it's evolved into a whole story, it's even better than it already was!

The artwork is SO detailed and some of the scenic shots are out of this world, I'm talking mad talent right there. It captures a lot of emotion really well, and overall is VERY pleasing to look at and admire.

The storytelling is beautifully crafted and I can see just how much effort has been put into each page, I cannot stress enough just how much I love the story and writing style itself.

Sure, the story sometimes gets a little confusing, but I find it as more of a charm than a bother. It's kind of like putting together a fun, Infinite puzzle! After all, it's the apocalypse- things are gonna be a bit hectic. Although, this new version of the book definitely cleared up some past confusion and questions, I'm super happy to be able to re-read it and get a better understanding of what's going on.

The characters all have their own charm and personality, and I really like how it doesn't just focus on main characters, as there are some pages dedicated to "side" characters. It's really a nice little touch to see other character's perspectives. There's a lot of information and story scattered about, so I definitely recommend reading every page.

Finally, it's really grow to be a comfort story for me! Can't wait for more awesome updates 💚

Whimsical Dystopian Sci-fi Grandeur

Reviewed at: 1: In which Charles gives up

A beautiful series of whimsical dystopian sci-fi artwork. The story is not as serious as some of the art may suggest, which is not at all a bad thing, it's easy to jump in on any page and enjoy the story and artwork without knowing what's going on. It's been a source of inspiration for my own storytelling before, and now an inspiration for drawing more lately.
