In their memoir, Magnuson and Pine tell two stories of crisis and recovery. The first involves Magnuson’s struggle with addiction, an illness and a healing process that involved Pine, who is his wife, and indeed his entire family. The second narrative chronicles the couple’s H Street restaurant, the Argonaut. Voted one of D.C.'s top 75 bars in 2007, it was damaged by fire in 2010—then, with community help, it was rebuilt and made a triumphant return to the top 75 list in 2011.
