Rob Says: The quality of Colombian coffees has been on the rise in recent years, making it a favorite among many young baristas and roasters. At Caffenation, we’ve witnessed this trend, leading us to secure the entire Santa Elena harvest for the second harvest running. By increasing our volume and buying power, we’re able to support local farmers like Maria while satisfying the growing demand for premium Colombian coffee.

MARIA DAMARIS MEDINA and her husband Wilson began long ago working with 6 hectares of farmland that they have slowly built over time. The couple both come from coffee growing families and learned the craft of cultivating coffee at their parents’ sides.

this lot is 1/3rd of our LGB summer blend but also available as a single origin coffee

Kenya Kirinyaga KIANGOI AA

  • Blood orange and mandarin notes
  • Gin tonic complexity
  • Vanilla sugar sweetness

Co-op: Rungeto Farmers

Screen size: AA

Variety: SL 28 & 34, Ruiri 11

Exporter: Kenyakof

Importer: Sucafina Specialty

Rob says: After a long hiatus spanning nine years, the beloved Filter coffee of 2014, KIANGOI, makes its triumphant return to the scene. Named after the very washing station where its journey begins.

This AA lot of Kiangoi is a dynamic cup, with big sweetness, fresh fruits, and floral complexity. In the nose you find sweet notes like honey and brown sugar, along with baked fruits such as peach and cherry. It has a nice vanilla flavor, adding depth to its already rich profile, which works well with emergence of sweet citrus notes reminiscent of mandarin and blood orange dancing gratefully in the finish.

Expect this coffee to be one of the openers of the new crop, starting June/July 2024

Kenya Mt. ELGON AA

  • Gooseberry notes
  • Creamy fudge candy
  • Tea-like and clean

Region: Mount Elgon, Eastern Kenya

Screening: AA size

Variety: SL 28 & 34, Ruiri 11

Importer: Sucafina Specialty

Rob says: In our annual coffee pilgrimage to Kenya, we come across unfamiliar names, even stumping the exporting company. And very rarely we only get the region name the coffee comes from, just like with this lot. It stood out on the cupping table, so despite its obscurity, its quality compelled us to make the purchase.
In the realm of Kenyan coffee, screen sizes like AA, AB, and PB (peaberry) are key indicators of quality and flavor. AA beans are the largest, prized for their uniformity and vibrant acidity. AB follows closely, offering similar quality with slightly smaller beans. PB, the smallest, boasts intensified flavors despite its size. Understanding these sizes ensures each cup of Kenyan coffee delivers a memorable experience.

This Mt Elgon is going to be one of our first coffee starting the new crop – June/july 2024

Rob says: At Caffenation, we’re thrilled to announce the return of the legendary CHELCHELE to our midst. Chelchele is not just any coffee processing station—it’s a beacon of excellence, revered worldwide for its mastery in handling some of the most legendary naturals ever produced.

A small word on the cupping note Meyer Lemon: Meyer lemons are considered to be a hybrid between a mandarin orange and a lemon. Frank N. Meyer, a United States Department of Agriculture employee, brought this variety from China to the United States in the 20th century and gave this lemon its namesake.

Smaller and rounder in size, this variety has a thinner peel with a more fragrant zest. The skin has a darker yellow to orange hue.

This coffee is part of our Miss XX program and normally on the agenda for July 2024
