    One checks the other.

Is your Halfords wrench broken? Or do you just not trust its accuracy Mike?

If you have a vice and some weights, you can get a good idea if it reads true as it clicks, by hanging weights off it. Or use a spring gauge, or if a mate has a good wrench, use it to check your own.

Yes, the oil comes out of the block behind the distributor, to the cooler, then back to the filter.

I would normally do what you have done, i.e. pouring oil into the outlet and turning the engine backwards to prime the pump, spin it up with the plugs out until pressure is achieved, then fire it up.

I dont know why you would lose pressure again.

    Was the filter filled w...

    Hi

Any recommendations please for a new torque wrench for use on Spridgets and regular cars (guess I need up to about 80ftlb/110NM in uppermost three quarters of the range?). My 40 year Halfords clicking one is suspect!

I am looking for a good quality brand these days. I am not blessed with access to calibration services unfortunately though to periodically check it or a good us...

You're right about the mojo thing Ray, and how driving your spridget can restore it pretty quickly.

It's the pleasure derived from the driving of the things, more than anything else, that spurred us all to keep one (or more than one, for some people) of them for so long.

Like many here I have had a number of different cars over the years; some I've liked a lot. I've also driven a...

No oil pressure after engine rebuild by specialist.
After refitting this engine I found on turning over with no ignition I had no oil pressure. Finding aritcles on forums I removed the oil cooler pipe from where the banjo is fitted and fitted a funnel with oil as suggested turning engine anti clockwise. I did this numerous times including leaving oil to drain into the engine. On cranking with ...

    Hi Anam,

Of course you are correct about fluids. The reason I hadn't used my car was hat I had lost my mojo - bereavement etc. It worked on my first attempt to "give it a go" and that first run out gave me enough enthusiasm to return to driving it and "tinkering" again. I changed all the fluids and gave it a thorough inspection. The Midget magic returned and, as well as the driving, I ...

As usual the BBS gets me thinking - I have probably never seen or fitted a correct spec one of these, just the usual rubbish!

Anam mentioned a Polybush version, AH Spares sell these: https://www.ahspares.co.uk/austin-healey/sprite/suspension-front/top-trunnion-polybush-kit.aspx I guess the same query about if these are the correct profile would apply.

I wonder what Colin Dodds of Spr...

Yep- but isn't 8G621'Z' the flanged type you're after.
I always thought the upper and lower bushes were identical. Can remember buying them in a set of 12 for a Midget to do both upper and lower and can't remember that there was any difference in any of the bushes in the kit-
